Congratulations to Laurie Blackier, the winner of our most recent Cougars & Cowboys Nutrition LLC. 30-Day Challenge!
Laurie shared this message: “I think everyone should do pictures. As uncomfortable as it is, the camera helps so much to see progress. My progress wasn’t huge. And I had many detours during this challenge but I do see a difference! I released 4lbs. I didn’t measure myself but clothes are fitting so much better. I was committing to cleansing once a week and attending exercise classes twice a week. The weather screwed up my classes but I’ve been pretty faithful to my cleansing (thanks to hubby for accountability) and hitting the treadmill. Thanks to Katie, Adam and all Cougars & Cowboys team members as the group page keeps me on track. Even if it’s just checking in, I feel ready for my upcoming vacation!”
The Cougars & Cowboys Team recently started a 28-Day Challenge using DietBet. The primary focus is for those looking to “kick-start” their weight loss journey. Cost is $10 to enter, and the pot is split among everyone who hits their goal (which is the same for everyone – to lose 4% of your body weight in 28 days). Last day to enter is April 30, 2017. Team Member Elizabeth Marmion recently shared her Isagenix journey with the Cougars & Cowboys Team Blog.
It was right after Christmas 2014, when I was talking to my sister Chris Belin. I was getting ready for a friend’s wedding in St. Thomas in a few months and I could barely put on jeans I was so uncomfortable with my weight gain, I couldn’t imagine putting on a bathing suit. She suggested I try the program she and Mike had started a few month before. Mike had great success losing weight with the program and Chris approved of its health benefits. I trusted my sister so much, and was desperate to lose the weight, I jumped right in and signed up for the 30 day System.
2. What was life like for you before starting Isagenix?
I moved to the New York City area in August 2013. I was newly in love and enjoying meeting new people, going out to dinner parties, and drinking amazing wine! The problem was that I had been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease a few years prior and all the rich foods and wine was having a terrible reaction in my gut. I was having more problems that ever before. Just about 6 months before I joined Isagenix my doctor put me on an intense round of medication in order to relieve the inflammation in my intestines and warned me that steroids would be next. I had gained almost 30 pounds in the first year I lived in NYC. I felt frustrated with what I thought I was supposed to eat for my disease, and what I wanted to eat and drink to enjoy myself and have fun with new friends and family. My digestive pain made me exhausted and frustrated all day everyday. I didn’t understand food and nutrition enough to eat in order to strengthen and heal my body. Instead I was hurting myself more everyday.
When I started the program I had no intention that I would ever make a dent in my stomach problems. I wanted to lose weight. The first month I followed the program very strictly. I drank two shakes a day with small snacks between. I always had a well balanced dinner and cut out soda, coffee, and sweet iced teas. I followed 4 deep cleanse days that month and within the first two weeks I had already felt an increase in energy, and had began to see weight loss. By the time I went to that wedding in April., I had lost 15 pounds and felt incredible. I had been able to put on some of my old jeans without squeezing and feeling uncomfortable. Best news? My stomach problems were getting better and better. I was having less pain and discomfort everyday. I was able to acknowledge that I had a gluten intolerance that helped to ease a lot of my digestive upset.
Fast forward 6 months and I was in a new house in Long Island, and ready to kick up my weight loss efforts again and began using the incredible energy I had to begin exercising. I lost another 15 pounds and was starting to feel more and more incredible. Even my new smaller clothes were getting loose. I had dropped 4 pant sizes!! I had so much energy, and felt like a brand new person.
This past spring I achieved a goal I would have never imagined possible. I earned my certification as a personal trainer and began training at a facility near my house. I have become so incredible passionate and interested in the way that we feed and move our bodies can make us lean, healthy, and strong! I feel incredibly fortunate that I am able to share my knowledge and experience with others, but none of it would be possible without Isagenix. Saying yes in December 2014, I didn’t really know what I was getting involved in but it has changed my whole life.
4. What are your favorite products? Why?
Oh gosh… the list is endless.
1. Isalean Pro, French vanilla. I drink this twice a day. I now eat 5 meals a day, and I cant imagine having to buy, cook, and carry two extra meals everyday. This shake has amazing macro nutrients and is tasty, easy and convenient!
2. E shots. My fiancé jokes that they are my drug of choice. I am hooked, drinking at least one a day, sometimes two. The energy and mental clarity I get from drinking the easy quick shot is incredible. I am planning to have them on hand wedding day!!
3. Brain Boost. This is exactly what it sounds like, you need a boost for your brain? I did, I do everyday. AH-MAZING !!
4. Cleanse for Life. Never have your home without this product. I absolutely love CFL. It is my reset button, my miracle juice that helps keep me on track and keep my system clean and clear!
5. What’s ahead for you goal-wise? Have you started sharing the opportunity with others?
I am looking forward to continuing to grow and learn about health and fitness; building my Isagenix business and my business as a Personal Trainer. I am excited to continue building and maintaining a strong body.
My best tip for success is to find a way to continue motivating yourself. It’s really easy to get motivated, its really hard to stay in that space. You have days where you fall down, where you allow yourself a cheat day or meal, or skip a workout. The key is finding a way to stand right back up and get right back to eating clean, and doing your best to live a strong balanced lifestyle.
Summertime fun – with vacations, parties, etc. – can be a tough time to stick to a weight loss/fitness routine. Cougars & Cowboys Nutrition, LLC recently hosted a 30-Day Transformation Challenge with participants focused on achieving results in three areas: weight loss, energy and performance and healthy aging. The challenge ran for the month of August, and winners were just announced. We are excited to share their 30-day results below. Our next challenge is slated for late September, 2016. Please Contact Us for full details.
First Place: Paul Wainwright
Paul’s goals were simple when he started this challenge. He wanted to burn more fat and WIN this challenge! Prior to starting this challenge Paul had dropped 40 LBS. This challenge was perfect for him because he was ready to take his health to another level. He reached out to the team for ideas and as always the team came through for him. He was coming into this challenge where he felt he was in a plateau that had lasted about 5 weeks. He made it a priority to do at home workouts. Sometimes working out at 11 PM because he wanted it. He started using the Bedtime Belly Buster and made sure he was getting enough protein every shake day. He also started to incorporate Amped NOx in his daily routine for his workouts. He dropped 13 LBS and regardless if he won the challenge or not he knew he had won with improved health. Thank You Paul, you are an inspiration to all of us!!
Second Place: Naomi Steiner
Naomi’s Goals coming into the 30 day challenge were to lean out especially in her tummy, arms and back. Do 2 back to back cleanse days, track food intake, drop 8 LBS and cut back to two alcoholic beverages per week. Naomi dropped 5 LBS, but more importantly she leaned out where she wanted to. She met her goals with only 2 drinks per week of alcohol. She knows that she can still see progress with doing things in moderation. For the future she wants to lean out more in the triceps and thighs and wants to see a 6 pack!! Thank you Naomi for continuing to be an inspiration to all of us!
Third Place: Marian Bauer
Her goals were to get back to basics, go to the gym one more day per week and work on her speed. She stated she is sick of people getting past her while playing soccer and tripping them is illegal LOL! During the challenge she got back to cleansing and following the program better. She did add that extra day at the gym and is preparing to do the Zombie 5K with her husband and two daughters. She also started to do some running drills in her backyard!! Feel free to add anything that I missed Marian. You have been and are a true inspiration to everyone! PS check out her shoes 🙂
Holiday weight gain can happen: take steps now to prevent it!
But that doesn’t have to be the case for you. And as someone who has already exhibited success on our nutrition plan, you know what you have to do to get things back in order!
Thanksgiving marks the beginning of a “high risk” time for weight gain. While Thanksgiving is only one day, the holiday festivities complete with food and alcohol, typically extends through the new year. To keep your holiday weight gain in check, here are our Top 10 Tips to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain:
Keep the water going throughout the day, every day. Aim to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water. Don’t be afraid to bring your water bottle to a holiday party. And be sure to drink at least 8-12 ounces roughly 15-20 minutes before a large meal. It will help you prevent over-eating.
2.) Keep Moving!
While you may not be able to follow your current exercise regime 100%, don’t let that be an excuse to do nothing. Make a new holiday tradition to take a long walk after the meal prior to eating dessert. You might be surprised to find yourself not even wanting the dessert. Stay as loyal as possible to your current workout routine, and if you don’t have one, no time like the present to start, even if it’s just walking…
3.) Don’t Arrive at a Party STARVING!!!
Eat a protein-packed snack prior to leaving for your party to keep your hunger at bay. High quality protein is the best way to curb your appetite and avoid overeating.
4.) PROTEIN first:
Protein is the quickest way to fill up and curb your appetite. If you eat your protein portion first (turkey, ham, etc) you are less likely to over-indulge on the ‘naughty’ stuff like high calorie rolls, pastries, etc.
5.) If you cook, crack down on the ‘tastes’!
It’s easy to do when you are in charge of cooking a large meal. But be prepared and limit your indulgences. Keep the water going and have protein-packed snacks throughout your preparation to keep your hunger at bay.
Plan to do a one-day or two-day cleanse on the Monday following the holiday. If you have never done a cleanse day, contact us to learn more, and to purchase our all-natural cellular cleanse. If your schedule doens’t allow for this, consider nightly cleansing. Full details are located in your ‘Getting Started Guide‘ and also in our private Facebook group.
7.) Aim for 7 a day! Get your fruit and veggies!
In addition to protein, ensuring you get your seven servings of fruit and vegetables is another great way to fill up on healthy food. Fruits and veggies have far fewer calories and many more nutrients than chips, cookies, crackers, etc. You get the idea…! Prep the fruit and veggies ahead of time and snack on them to make sure you get your servings in!
8.) Be accountable to someone other than yourself!
We all start out with the best of intentions. And those don’t always pan out. That’s why we started our ‘Holiday Contest’ to assign you an accountability partner so you can work together to share your struggles and avoid the holiday gain! Still time to join in, so contact me to be added.
9.) Keep one thing consistent:
On holiday mornings, be sure to start your day with a protein-packed IsaLean shake, or IsaLean PRO shake. Starting your day with a solid protein-filled breakfast will help you prevent overeating later in the day.
10.) Have a Plan:
If you do let things get out of hand during the holidays have a plan to get back on track in the New Year. In addition to our current contest that runs through the end of December (still time to join, contact me to be added), we will be offering our next Nutrition Bootcamp mini course in January. Contact us to register.
With this, please enjoy your holiday and stay safe. If you are not currently a customer of Cougars & Cowboys Nutrition and would like additional information about our nutrition plans, please contact us at (585) 687-8131 or via our contact form. We welcome the opportunity to work with you!
